Derrick Dion's Story
Life
After graduating, I attended Oakwood College in Huntsville, Al. majoring in Religious Education and Early Childhood Education. After leaving school, I remained in Huntsville until 1991 working at McDonald's. I then moved to Michigan for a few months and then to Alexandria, Va. in September of that year. I started working at the Child Development Center at Ft. Myer in November. I worked there until February of 1995 when I transferred to the Child Development Center at Ft. Leavenworth. In 1998 I was asked to work with the School Age Services as well. In 2000 I was then asked to work at the Harrold Youth Center. In 2003 I left the government to work with my Mom in her daycare. Just last month I took a temporary job in Cedar Falls, Ia. at the Target Distribution Center. I just recently went back to work for School Age Services at Ft. Leavenworth. It's just like a Homecoming.
I have never been married and I have no kids. I have done a lot of singing, though. Many of you might remember that I sung in a quartet called The Chosen Four with David Arnold and two other guys from our church. Well, we're still singing and this year we will celebrate thirty years of singing together. In the years since high school we have been to several citie...Expand for more
s spreading the Gospel. Some of the major places where we have performed are Detroit, Mi., Atlanta, Ga., and Washington, D.C. to name a few. David and I also sung in a group in college called Unity. I also sung in four other groups while in Huntsville. In one of the groups we still get together and sing from time to time. One of the guys is a pastor and in 2002, he brought us to New Orleans to do a program and just this past August, he had us to do a program at his church in St. Louis. But the highlight for me was, while he was pastoring in Bermuda, in 2003 he flew us over there for a week. It was during their Jazzfest and we shared the plane with Natalie Cole, Kenny G., and Gospel singer BeBe Winans. We had a great time. Also, about every year from 1997-2007, David's brother, Walter(who passed in December of '07), would get all of the groups together in Huntsville for a big reunion program. The Chosen Four are usually the guest group. However, since I sung in so many groups, I'm usually singing the whole program. It's all good, though, because singing is my biggest passion in life. I might not have the best voice but I sure enjoy using what I have.
That about covers my life. If anything else happens I guess I'll post more.
